Introducing the Lifehook® L55
Pole-top lineman training safety systems
The Lifehook® L55 is the safest pole-top lineman training fall protection system on the market. The new L55 units are rated at 5500 lbs., rotate a full 360° around the pole, and provide OSHA required fall protection during traditional apprentice climber training and climber requalification.
The Lifehook® L55 installs easily and securely with the industry's only split cylinder mounting bracket which reinforces the upper section of the utility pole. The mounting brackets are available in standard and oversize variations to fit utility poles with diameters between 6 and 10.5. Compared to competing products, the Lifehook® L55 mounting bracket provides more than twenty times the area to contact the pole which safely distributes fall arrest forces without generating pressure points. By eliminating pressure points, the Lifehook® L55 remains level with continued use for more consistent performance and to prevent damage and potential splitting of the pole.
The arm of the Lifehook® L55 rotates a full 360° around the pole using specific bearings. The Lifehook® L55 features the lowest rotating mass of any system in its class providing fast and near effortless alignment with the climber to better prevent a potentially dangerous swing fall. Slab-sided arms found on competing products have more than three times the exposed surface area which can cause it to act like a sail when the wind blows. The advanced design of the Lifehook® L55 provides a strong, open architecture that is significantly less affected by wind conditions and less prone to weathervaning.
The Lifehook® L55 consistently prevents secondary injuries to the worker from splinters and other bodily contact with the utility pole. This major safety advantage over competing products is accomplished by locating the attachment point for a self-retracting lifeline behind the climber's center of gravity. To avoid the chance of being thrusted into the pole at the onset of a fall, the additional length for the lifeline attachment point on the Lifehook® L55 brings the climber's torso a safe distance from the pole. Once the fall is arrested, the climber can easily reach the pole to reposition themselves.
The Lifehook® L55 is designed to be used with a self-retracting lifeline and a full-body fall arrest harness with a dorsal D-ring. The typical self-retracting lifeline will arrest a free fall within 18 to 24 inches. Most self-retracting lifelines feature an inline impact indicator which allows the user to easily determine the working condition of the product during routine inspection. Once a load limit is reached, the impact indicator is activated and the lifeline must be taken out of service and returned to the manufacturer for repair and recalibration. For this reason, many training professionals purchase two self-retracting lifelines to keep in rotation. Self-retracting lifelines are sold separately and specifications such as capacity, locking speed, arrest force, stop distance, and service intervals vary according to manufacturer.
The Lifehook® L55 has the highest strength rating of any product in its class. A stringent inspection and proof-testing program assures each Lifehook® is defect free and certifies compliance with federal standards. The Lifehook® L55 is available in a choice of an exclusive rust-proof galvanized finish or a new, more cost-effective Rust-Oleum® enamel coating. All maintenance and recertification services are provided at no cost for up to three years. Don't compromise on safety in your lineman training program. Insist on the best, insist on Lifehook® fall protection systems.
